Study Guide, Exam 3 and Exam 4 (final)

Format of Exam 3 and Exam 4 (final exam)

Exam 3 and Exam 4 will both be take-home, written exams conducted under the Aggie Honor Code.

You will have 3 continuous hours to take each exam. You may use your books and notes and library resources for each exam. You will receive exam questions via email a week before the due date of each exam. You may not speak or share information with other students about the exams before each exam period is concluded.

Use Turnitin.com to submit your responses. Put your name on each exam. (Exams without names on them will lose 5 points automatically.) Course number  = 11372493 , password = followthe$

Use good academic writing style for all your responses. When citing written work and using quotations in your text, use this format: (Author's Last Name, Date of Publication, page number), for example, (Doyle, 2014, p. 16).

Exam 3

Exam 3 will be sent out by email by Wednesday, April 20. You must complete it and turn it in before Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m.  Do not open the email until you are ready to take and complete the exam!

Scope of Exam 3: Doyle Ch. 9, Downing, Hesmondhalgh & Baker, Gandy, Wasko. Refer to the weekly reading questions in the syllabus for likely exam questions.

An extra credit essay will be available on this exam.

Exam 4

Exam 4 will be sent out by email by Thursday, April 28. You must complete it and turn it in before Thursday, May 5, 9:30 AM. Do not open the email until you are ready to take and complete the exam!


Scope of Exam 4 (final exam): Cumulative, all semester's readings. This is a reflection paper, for which you will offer your own thoughts about what is most valuable (and problematic) about media economics and political economy approaches. Consider what media economics does well and not so well in explaining how the media and telecom industries work. Then compare these features to critical political economy of communications. Does the political economy approach try to do everything that media economics does? What does political economy do well, and maybe not so well?

An extra credit essay will be available on this exam.
